European Rice Ramadan Delicacy!

Ramadan Rice Pudding: A Festive Delight

The holy month of Ramadan brings families and friends together to reflect on good deeds and spend moments of togetherness. Food is the best way to connect and bond with each other. One dish that holds a special place in Ramadan gatherings is rice pudding. Creamy, comforting, and delicious, this Ramadan Rice Pudding recipe is sure to be a hit at your Iftar table.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup European rice
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (such as almonds, pistachios, or cashews)
  • 1 tablespoon rose water (optional)
  • Saffron threads (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Begin by rinsing the European rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch.
  2. In a large pot, combine the rinsed rice with 1 cup of water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until it’s cooked and tender.
  3. While the rice is cooking, in another saucepan, pour in the whole milk and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent the milk from scorching.
  4. Oncethe rice is cooked, add it to the simmering milk. Stir well to combine, and let it cook over low heat for another 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Gradually add the sugar, ground cardamom, and ground cinnamon to the rice and milk mixture, stirring continuously until the sugar is dissolved and the pudding thickens slightly.
  6. Stir in the raisins and chopped nuts. Continue to cook the pudding for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until it reaches your desired consistency.
  7. Sprinkle a few saffron threads over the top for added aroma and flavour.
  8. Once the pudding has reached the desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. Serve warm or chilled, garnished with the remaining chopped nuts and a few saffron threads if desired.
